View Full Version : WHAT is the best prep discipline?
Not sure if this is considered under the category of "competitive gymnastics", but....
I am trying to train to prepare myself for some really heavy duty activities that go beyond what regular gymnasts/acrobats do. So in deciding on a body-control discipline to train in, I heard someone mention that "Ferget about it dude...Circus acrobatics are no match for Olympic level gymnastics when it comes to ultimate skill...Olympic level gymnastics reign supreme, kiddo".

In my opinion gymnastics is a cut above all other kinds of sport and physical fitness. If you are a well rounded gymnast you can be very well rounded in other sports without too much training in them.
I hope to be skilled enough to, not take on gymnastics, but to be able to tackle the sport/discipline of Parkour....which in most people's opinions & analysis, is the most difficult body control discipline there is. Anyone skilled in this art would be considered among the most elite body control athletes in the world, beating out traditional gymnasts too.
There doesnt seem to be much chit chat around here about just the skill of gymnastics, so....
do any of you know of a website/forum that is dedicated to the "body control" disciplines in general? (ie. Trampoline, Gymnastics, Circus, Wushu martial arts, Capoeira, Breakdancing, etc.)

Hey
The best Advice I could give you for prearation is make sure you are fully fit and eat healthily and take notes of what your coach actually says to you also make sure you warm up well before training or any gym competition meets.
Failure to warm up and keep yourself fully fit may result in injury and believe me I should know I've suffered Gymnastics injuries and they are not too pleasant.
Failing to eat healthily may cause confrontation between you and your coach.
Hope this helps
