Hey,
I'm wanting to get back into gymnastics again, so I want to be in shape for it. What advice do people have for me? I've got a set of paralettes, so I've been doing tuck sits, tuck planches, L-sits and handstands against the wall on them. Along with that, I've been doing a bunch of bodyweight exercises.
Any tips?
Peter.

Hey Peter, I too have been out of the sport for a while now (6 years for me)!
I have almost gone back about 3 times, but something has always stopped me, not being in shape or being ill, as the primary reasons. Good for you for going back. All I can suggest for conditioning is the basic core stuff, that we did no matter what, back in my gymnast days. Here is the list.
3 sets of 40 v-sits
3 sets of 40 pushups
3 sets of 40 squat-sets
That was the bare basic min, for conditioning
Then we had lists where we got to pick additional conditioning items from. I would say, maybe that, plus a few good gym workouts (the other kind of gym), and some good runs, for getting back in shape. That is what I kind of did when I was trying to go back.
Goodluck:)

Ye just try to do some conditioning exercises and do them every night (or try to) and then you will be back in no time.:) :)

Hey Peter
I am just coming back into Gymnastics myself after a 9 year absence from the sport. I suffered a really nasty knee injury when I was 14 and had to give up.
The best advice I could give you is to make sure you warm up properly, excercise well and take it easy. I had to seek medical advice as I was planning tor return to gymnasics after an injury that kept me away from it for 9 years. but I am sure you are fit and healthy
also make sure you have the correct attire.
Hope this helps you
Chris

Hi i am new so hi
Any way back to topic i believe for any gymnast who is coming back from any period of time from a few weeks to a few years stretching and some body conditioning is required. My advice is to stretch out in the first few lessons of starting and a few months before hand and also visit your old gym if possible if not just advise the club and a head coach of your plans to come back they normally have very good classes for past gymnasts or new adult gymnasts.
As for conditioning well push ups yes but only a small amount say 40, v-snaps or sit ups say 40 also then dish and arch holds say for a minute or two then with those paralettes continue with the tuck planches and L-sits and try for v if possible, also do handstands flat against a wall with and with out the paralettes and stretch regularly. As for the rest a personal trainer should help with the legs and arms but not shoulder work for crosses sorry they are the gymnastics best skill and good for a machine to be made for them so yeah wide arm push ups and handstands as well as wide arm ship ups.
By the way i am a lv 8 Australian gymnast and a level 2 judge as well as a lv1 coach getting my lv 2 hopefully so i know what i am talking about.
